WRITE.VOTE.RECALL

Every election cycle, from the smallest local dog catcher battle to the U.S. presidency, brings with it an overwhelming supply of advertisements — television, radio, Internet — you get the picture.

No matter what the issue happens to be, Swift Boating, Borking, Roe v. Wade, and no matter which side happens to produce the ads, I just tune them out. Yes, even Republican political ads I tune out. I happen to have extensive intimate knowledge of how these ads — Republican as well as Democrat — are created, marketed and pushed upon the American public. Let’s just say there are two things in life you don’t want to know about — How Sausage Is Made & How Political Ads Are Made.

With all these disclaimers being made, I have to point your attention to this latest television ad produced by the California Republican Party called, “Budget Bully.”

“Instead of relying on common sense and economic reality, the union-led campaign for higher taxes is based on a foundation of bullying and threats to lawmakers,” said state Republican Chairman Ron Nehring. “Californians need to know about these threats and the campaign of intimidation being waged by union officials. In this case, they can see it with their own eyes.”

Well Chairman Nehring, respectfully, the reason why we voted you guys into office was to thwart these thugs. ‘Thwart’ is too soft. How about ‘take them out’?

Them vs. Us Mentality

What you should find particularly offensive is the arrogance of this woman in the ad. She reportedly represents the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) here in California.

According to the SEIU they are, “the fastest-growing union in North America. Focused on uniting workers in three sectors to improve their lives and the services they provide.” These sectors are healthcare, property and public services.

I don’t know about you, but Tony Soprano’s sister Janice comes to mind. My congratulations to Aida Turturro for bringing to life such a great character but this thug in the video is a close second.

Now that I think about it, where is Tony Soprano when we need him the most?

I am,
